International students are required to have a certain level of English language proficiency to study at the university. Strathclyde University accept a number of English language tests as proof of English language skill.
The current standard requirements are:
- IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no individual band less than 5.5)
Other English language qualifications that are acceptable include the following:
- IELTS condition 6.0 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in each component
- IELTS condition 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in each component
- IELTS condition 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each component

As well as English language proficiency, there are specific course and country-based entry requirements. International students who do not meet all of the academic requirements can study preparation programmes. These are taught on campus and have been designed to introduce students to the style of teaching at the University of Strathclyde. Once this has been successfully completed, students can advance to degree-level of study.
Facilities
Students are greatly encouraged to have a balance of study as well as extra-curricular activities. The university has a number of wonderful facilities to ensure that students enjoy life on campus and have a brilliant student experience.
Sport & Recreation
Strathclyde Sport, the new sport centre, hosts a range of activities such as a variety of fitness classes, squash courts, a free weights area, gym and swimming pool. For outdoor activities there are football, rugby and hockey pitches.
Information Services
The university has more than 25 modern PC labs (many of which are open 24 hours a day) and more than 1,350 PCs across campus with 350 available for drop-in use. There are dedicated IT helpdesk staff on hand to assist with IT queries, as well as an online Resource Centre for tutorials and free training from IT experts.

Each hall is only a short walk from the main university buildings, including the Students’ Union, Sports Centre, International Study Centre, Library and the campus shops and cafes. The university is ideally situated in the bustling Glasgow city centre. A variety of bars, clubs, shops and restaurants are all a few minutes from the accommodation blocks.
Accommodation is self-catering, and a mixture of en-suite and shared bathroom facilities. Rooms are fully equipped with comfortable furniture and excellent internet connection. There is shared living space for students to socialise and cook together, which includes modern kitchen appliances and a TV.
