Scholarships & funding

The University of Strathclyde Glasgow has a number of different scholarships available to international undergraduate and postgraduate students. Available for both the pathway programmes and degree courses, scholarships can cover both tuition fees and living expenses. There are also some other partial funding opportunities that can contribute towards university costs.

International Study Centre scholarships

Scholarships are available for the Undergraduate Foundation Programme, International Year One BBA and Pre-Masters Programme. These are limited in availability and are awarded on a first come first served basis. After successful completion of a pathway programme, students can be awarded scholarships each academic year if they achieve grades of 60 percent.

Faculty scholarships

University scholarships are available at all four of the University of Strathclyde faculties:

  • Faculty of Engineering scholarships
  • Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences scholarships
  • Faculty of Science scholarships
  • Strathclyde Business School scholarships

Combined scholarships

Combined scholarships can also be awarded to students that are self-funded. These are provided by both the Strathclyde International Study Centre and the University for studying a pathway programme as well as undergraduate or postgraduate study.

The University of Strathclyde is situated in the heart of Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city and the 4th best city in the world according to Time Out Index 2022. Glasgow is one of Scotland’s most lively and interesting city’s, with an abundance of history and culture to be explored by visitors and residents. GDP 1 billion is currently being invested into the campus in a 17-year plan, due to be completed by 2025. This investment will see great improvements to the facilities for students to make full use of.

For 2 years running, Strathclyde has been nominated for the University of the Year at the Times Higher Education University Awards. In addition to this great credit, Strathclyde has 13 subjects ranked top in the 10 by the Complete University Guide 2023. The nationally recognised subjects include pharmacology and pharmacy, education, accounting and finance, manufacturing and production engineering

Entry requirements

International students are required to have a certain level of English language proficiency to study at the university. Strathclyde University accept a number of English language tests as proof of English language skill.

The current standard requirements are:

  • IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no individual band less than 5.5)

Other English language qualifications that are acceptable include the following:

  • IELTS condition 6.0 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in each component
  • IELTS condition 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in each component
  • IELTS condition 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each component

Some study programmes have specific English language requirements that differ from the above so please check individual course pages for details.

The university’s Recruitment and International Office can offer prospective students advice on any further qualifications that have not been listed.

As well as English language proficiency, there are specific course and country-based entry requirements. International students who do not meet all of the academic requirements can study preparation programmes. These are taught on campus and have been designed to introduce students to the style of teaching at the University of Strathclyde. Once this has been successfully completed, students can advance to degree-level of study.

Facilities

Students are greatly encouraged to have a balance of study as well as extra-curricular activities. The university has a number of wonderful facilities to ensure that students enjoy life on campus and have a brilliant student experience.

Sport & Recreation

Strathclyde Sport, the new sport centre, hosts a range of activities such as a variety of fitness classes, squash courts, a free weights area, gym and swimming pool. For outdoor activities there are football, rugby and hockey pitches.

Information Services

The university has more than 25 modern PC labs (many of which are open 24 hours a day) and more than 1,350 PCs across campus with 350 available for drop-in use. There are dedicated IT helpdesk staff on hand to assist with IT queries, as well as an online Resource Centre for tutorials and free training from IT experts.

Each hall is only a short walk from the main university buildings, including the Students’ Union, Sports Centre, International Study Centre, Library and the campus shops and cafes. The university is ideally situated in the bustling Glasgow city centre. A variety of bars, clubs, shops and restaurants are all a few minutes from the accommodation blocks.

Accommodation is self-catering, and a mixture of en-suite and shared bathroom facilities. Rooms are fully equipped with comfortable furniture and excellent internet connection. There is shared living space for students to socialise and cook together, which includes modern kitchen appliances and a TV.
